Thankful Thursday

More pumpkin stand gratitude.

Last September, Max started thinking up different fundraising ideas. I guess because October was approaching, he considered doing a pumpkin stand. I thought he was crazy. What did we know about running one of those?

He started off by asking our awesome friend, Stacy B., if she knew any pumpkin farmers in Clovis. (This is where Jeff and Stacy live--probably about 4 hours from Albuquerque.) Stacy did know a farmer, and a fellow member of her church, who grew pumpkins. She volunteered to ask if he'd be interested any donating any to our Youth Ranch. I guess without hesitation, he told her that if we brought a trailer down to Clovis, he'd load us up.

Thanks so much Dan Lusk and family for your donation! We continue to be blown away by the generosity of people we've never met.

This is one of those times we were grateful to have four of our own kids (well, we'll pretend Grant helped) and three of our friends' for a little child labor at its best. The kids worked really hard unloading all those boxes. Have you ever unloaded a box of pumpkins? If so, you can sympathize with us and our noses! Every once in a while there was an extremely rotten, drippy one in the mix. UGH!! That didn't stoop our little pumpkin chuckers.

Kannon and Kabel were all smiles. What cuties! The first couple hundred were a lot of fun. The kids ran to get their next pumpkin time and again. But, we know they were all happy when it was over. So were Max and Jeff who did the majority of the heavy lifting. Stacy and I knew the men needed this. Who were we to interfere? While we're talking about Jeff and Stacy, we would love to thank them for their personal donation to Galloping Grace. Jeff told Max to put a quite a few items from their farm on the trailer--two feeders, a water trough, two roping dummies, a saddle, fence posts, and a lot of other tack!! Wow again! Thank you very much! Oh, and thanks for being such great friends!

It turns out that I still have more to say about the pumpkin stand. It was a big event in our lives, and their were a lot of generous people! Check back if you can "stand" it.
