And Then There Was One

Alternate title: CATastrophe

Ranch life aint always pretty, that's for sure. I usually paint a happy picture of GG, but today I have a grimmer tale to tell.

You know those cats I was trying to kick out earlier in the week? The two you all voted should have the privilege of sticking around? Well, one met an untimely demise earlier today and I must admit I'm a little sad about it.

Two regular boys to GG were chasing a lizard by the railroad ties. The lizard ran under one of the ties, and the boys innocently pulled at it trying to find the lizard. Some how one of the ties fell right on top of one of the cats. The boys got upset seeing it stuck under the board and ran for help. Cindy, one of our volunteers, had her wits about her enough to control the horse her participant/niece was on. Once the horse stopped, her niece took off to free the cat. Unfortunately, the cat was in bad shape. Cindy was a vet tech before having children and decided it had virtually no chance of survival. Max had to put it out of its misery.

Max and our girls are pretty bummed. They have become attached to the little kitties. I guess I cannot get away with telling you all how torn up I am--you'll just throw my earlier post back in my face, right? I can tell you that I'm sad for my family, for the boys witnessing the cat in pain, and all those there seeing the scene play out.

Accidents happen. I just thank God that no child was harmed.

So there you have it--one cat left.

On a funny note our neighbor Steph called to tell us a kitten showed up at her front door tonight. She could tell that it obviously was from the same litter as the others, but it was in much worse shape--very thin. She fed it dog food which it gobbled down. She does not want to become attached to any more cats because she has lost three out there.

I told her not to get any funny ideas about bringing it over.

I might be the meanest person I know.
