Kaitlin Is The Greatest
OK, so I guess I can't take credit for this post. All text and pictures are courtesy of Ms. Trish, our volunteer extraordinaire. (Except for my muffin word which she clearly stole. The nerve of some people.)
Trish, take it away--
Do you see this cute little muffin.
Her name is Kaitlin. While she loves the horses, she also has a great fear. What is her fear you ask horses. See she a begged her mom to bring her to Galloping Grace to see the horses but she has not wanted to be on the horses. She a been out two times prior to this great day. One day she was brave enough to pet the horses and the next time she led one of the horses. But never ever actually got on a horse. Well today was the day for this brave little girl to overcome her fear.
She sat on Seabiscut.
If took a lot of convincing from Steph, Melissa, mom and myself but Kaitlin was brave and accomplished something huge in her little nine year old life, she sat and for that moment in time she was the bravest girl in the world.
I am so proud of you Kaitlin. I truly hope you carry that feeling with you for the rest of your life you are great and can accomplish anything you set your mind to. And that my friends in blog land is the greatest thing to be a part of to watch a child do the impossible. Pure Joy at its best!
Kaitlyn, you should be proud of yourself. Way to go!! Trish, you too! Just how many guest posts is that for you now? Thank you so much! Thanks for blogging, for scheduling, etc., etc., etc.! Any night you want to write up another sweet story like this, I am willing to accept.
Copy. Paste. Done.
Why Brooke Probably Won't Be Speaking To Me This Evening
We took this picture in the backyard so I didn't embarrass her in front of the kids at the bus stop. Bus stop, by the way, is in our drive way! How handy is that? This is her first year to ride the bus, so having the stop right there makes it a lot easier on Mom and Dad.
We gave her lots of hugs before we sent her out the front door. She said, "Guys, I'm going to middle school--not college." Hmph!
Our little family then spent the next ten minutes spying on her from the office. It was loads of fun--especially when she spotted us.
Upon opening the front door I yelled, "BE YOUR BEST SELF!" That really cracked me up. The kids and I have joked about that line from one of the commercials that ran all the time during the Olympics for the show Parenthood. (That was the show, right?) Brooke put her head down and groaned. Then, I insisted on a buddy hug for my picture. She'll thank me later. Much later.
Garrett started fifth grade and Claire started third this morning. My babies are getting so big! I pray for a safe, successful year for all. I bet those two pray I won't do the same thing when they venture off into the scary world of middle school .
What am I going to do next year when the baby starts kindergarten???!

A Miracle
An adorable sweet muffin with a precious name. Erin and Christian, congratulations on the birth of Lillian Marie. Enjoy every squeak and grunt for me. Monday, August 16, 2010
A Parting Gift
Seen on the wall at the Silent Auction Dinner, that fun event held back in July.
Our son Garrett calmly told Trish's husband who was leaning against the wall, "Mr. Chase--you might want to move. There is a scorpion on the wall behind you."
I'm sure the scorpion was harmless, but it was still a considerate little warning from Garrett and made the end of the event a little exciting. I know Chase was more than happy to move.

Duct Tape & The Boys
As you can see from John David's Team Tom & Jerry shirt (that my sis-in-law had made for the teams of Tom and Jerry to show their competitive spirit against team Rax--real cute I must say), he got really into flanking this year.
Remember that book I'm going to write about why I wouldn't want to be a cow?? Well, this topic might deserve a whole chapter all by itself. Men, may I get an amen to that?

Freight Trains
Branding was a rip roarin' success. (Hmm, seems like I've written that exact sentence on this blog before.) I wanted to at least give you a picture or two from the fun, but it is taking FOREVER for the memory card to dump into my computer. I'm going to have to give up.
Thanks to you all for not breaking into my house during my absence. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate that. What swell readers I have.
So, what did I miss while I was gone? Anyone have anything exciting to share?

Move 'Em Out
Some of you might recall my terrible time-management skills. Because of that, I do not have time to create posts to publish for the remainder of the week while I am not here. We have company coming to town tomorrow. After that, we will head to the family cattle ranch for a big branding weekend.

Good Ol' Days
Come with me on a walk down memory lane. (If you have nothing better to do. I warn you--this is close to home movie watchin'.)
I found a memory card in my desk last week. It was almost like the old days finding a roll of film and not having a clue what was on it. Imagine my delight when I saw my scruffy little muffins back in 2006.
This post is turning into a downer.
